Hey Mythopoeians,
Hope you're hanging in there during these wild times.
We’ve had our own well documented hangups with Trump’s Tariffs.
In addition to the Slugblaster Delay, it pains us to announce that Felix Isaacs, designer of the Wildsea, will also not be attending Gen Con or any other American conventions this year due to safety concerns.
Our latest designer, Em Acosta, creator of Crescent and Exile, upended their plans to reside in the United States after their partner’s scholarship was abruptly cancelled at the beginning of the new year under the Trump Administration.
As in 2020 with Covid, we are now at a point where commerce unfortunately and inextricably intersects with the real world.
In the United States, we’ve felt a chilling effect as friends and cohorts confront the shocking actions of this administration - deportations, detentions, attacking our academic institutions; eroding our system of courts and laws, and weaponized use of artificial intelligence / big data at scale - to name just a few.
We at Mythworks choose to speak up. Because we believe in democracy, in justice and in protest. And we know, as students of history, the consequences of remaining silent.
Last week, I sent 540 letters to every single member of Congress, raising concerns over the tariff situation and the political climate writ large.
If you are reading this and you are an American citizen and afraid of what’s happening, you are not alone and you are not powerless. I urge you to join me in appealing to your elected representatives via email, letters, or calling them directly.
You can find their contact information here.
Until next time. Stay breezy out there!
Ray
